Who Am I? Understanding My Identity in Christ
Before we take a look at what it actually looks like, I just want to remind you that it’s important to understand your identity in Christ. If I’m being transparent, figuring out who we are can feel like a never-ending journey. The world can put so many labels on us. Our past mistakes try to define us, and if we’re not careful, we can spend our whole lives trying to prove our worth, chasing after validation that never really satisfies.
But here’s the truth, your identity isn’t found in what you do, what people think about you, or even how you feel about yourself. Your identity is found in Christ. And when you really understand that, it will change the way you think, the way you talk, the way you walk, how you see things, and the decisions and choices you make. It will change you!
So What Does It Actually Look Like to Walk in Your Identity in Christ?
It’s one thing to know you’re a child of God. It’s another thing to live like you believe it. So what does that actually look like in your life?
You Don’t Have to Strive for Approval
You don’t need to chase validation from people, achievements, or social media likes. God already chose you (1 Peter 2:9). He picked you on purpose because He wanted you, you weren’t an afterthought. When you get that truth deep down in your heart, you can walk with confidence, even when you don’t feel seen or appreciated by others.
Your Past Doesn’t Define You
We’ve all made mistakes. Things we wish we could undo. But God doesn’t see you through the lens of your past. In Christ, you are made new (2 Corinthians 5:17). The old you? That’s not who you are anymore. Shame, guilt, and regret don’t get to have power over you anymore because His grace covers it all.
You Have a Purpose (and You Don’t Have to Compare It to Anyone Else’s)
You weren’t put here just to go through the motions. God created you for a purpose (Ephesians 2:10). Your story, your gifts, your personality, it all has a purpose. And you don’t have to compare your journey to someone else’s and feel like you’re not doing enough. What God has for you is yours, and He will equip you to walk it out.
You Can Live Free
Fear, doubt, and insecurities no longer get to control you anymore. Jesus already set you free (Galatians 5:1). That means you don’t have to live in fear of what’s next or worry about what people think. You can trust that God is leading you, step by step.
Your Life Should Reflect Christ
Being in Christ isn’t just about what you believe, it’s about how you live. The way you treat people, the way you handle hard situations, the way you love people, it should all point back to Him. Whether you’re at work, with family, or just running errands, you want your life to be a reflection of His love.
At the End of the Day…
Your identity in Christ is secure. No matter what happens, whether you succeed, fail, get it right, or completely mess up, who you are doesn’t change. You don’t have to strive, compare, or try to prove yourself. You belong to Jesus. You are His. And that changes everything.
